Who is SmartPoint Research and how do I know this is not a scam?
SmartPoint Research is a market research company, a data collection company and an accredited Gold Seal Member of the Marketing Research and Intelligence Association (MRIA). We abide by all industry rules and standards. For more information in regards to our privacy policy, please see our privacy policy. You can check the legitimacy of our surveys by contacting the MRIA.

What is a focus group?
A focus group is a form of qualitative market research in which a group of people are asked about their perceptions, opinions, beliefs, and attitudes towards a product, service, concept, advertisement, idea, or packaging. Questions are asked in an interactive group setting where participants are free to voice their opinions.

What types of studies can I take part in?
We run different types of research studies throughout the year. Our studies can range from focus groups, online discussion boards, online questionnaires, in facility in-person interviews, telephone interviews, usability testing sessions, to ethnographies where a moderator accompanies, interviews and/or observes a respondent in a social setting.

Where are market research studies conducted?
Our main office is located in Vancouver, BC. However, we book participants for focus groups taking place in cities throughout Canada. When a focus group close to your location becomes available, we will send you an invitation via email. In addition to this, we also host projects that involve paid telephone interviews or online studies which do not require in person attendance.

What is the process to take part in focus group participation?
In order for us to be able to invite you to participate in focus groups and other market research studies you have to become a member of the SmartPoint Research panel.

Next step is wait for an invite to a qualification survey for a market research study. After you complete the qualification survey, and you qualify to take part based on your answers to that qualifying survey, a representative from SmartPoint Research will email/call you to invite you to participate as well as provide you with all of the details you need for participation.

How come I don’t receive a lot of survey invites?
We have a policy to not invite anyone who participated in past 6 months in a paid market research study such as focus groups / in person interviews / telephone interviews. You will receive invites again once that 6 months period is over.

How do I stop receiving notifications for a study in which I won’t be available on or am not interested in?
At the bottom of each email invitation is an unsubscribe button. Once you click on this link, you will have the option to unsubscribe from receiving further notifications for a specific study, or from all future studies.

I completed the survey but there was no mention of time or address for the study.
The initial invitation you receive from us is usually for the qualification survey. You have to complete the qualification survey and qualify to be given details of the study such as the exact location and time.

How do I know if I am qualified?
After completing the qualification survey. A project coordinator from SmartPoint Research will email/call you to confirm the dates and location. Only those who qualify are contacted. If you do not qualify for that study, you will not hear from us again until we invite you for another qualification survey.

Can my spouse/relative replace my spot in the study?
No. Participants are qualified based on their personal responses and demographics for each survey, which may be different than other individuals, including your spouse.

Can my spouse/relative/friend participate in the same study as me?
Spouses, relatives or friends are not permitted in most focus groups as these relationships can impact the group dynamics and/or bias or misinform the research.

Is there a different time slot for the focus group?
Different criteria and/or requirements may be unique for different time slots and therefore it’s important you show for the time which we have invited you to participate. However, please do not hesitate to inquire in advance of the focus groups as studies vary.

I don’t have a government issued ID, can I still participate?
If you don’t have a government issued ID, please give us a call at 604-484-4111.

I have completed my tasks for this study (other than focus group), when will I receive my incentive?
In-person focus groups or individual interviews are paid immediately following the completion of the research. Online focus groups or telephone interviews are typically paid within 1 – 2 weeks of completing the research, subject to the payment method (e.g. Email Money Transfer or Cheque by Mail.)

How can I update my personal information?
If you need to update any of the information we have on record, such as your address or telephone number, log into our user portal. Log in with your account ID and password to update your profile (account ID is the email that you signed up with). We highly recommend you update your profile anytime there’s a change to your contact or personal information. Once logged in, click on ‘update my profile’ to edit your personal information.
